EEDLING COURSE\; LEVEL 2\; Dublin\, Ireland\; 1-3 March 2016 \nCourse
 times : day 1-3\; 9am to 5pm.\nPLEASE NOTE\; the venue for day 3 is now c
onfirmed as the Maldron hotel\, not far from the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel.\n
\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n
\nWhy Dry Needling?\nD
ry Needling (DN) is a skilled intervention that uses a thin filiform needl
e to penetrate the skin and stimulate underlying myofascial trigger points
\, muscular\, and connective tissues for the management of neuromusculoske
letal pain and movement impairments.\nDN is used to treat dysfunctions in
skeletal muscle\, fascia and connective tissue and diminish persistent per
ipheral nociceptive input and reduce or restore impairments of function le
ading to improved activity and participation. The physiological basis for
DN depends upon the targeted tissue and treatment objectives. The treatmen
t of myofascial trigger points ( TrPs) has a different physiological basis
than treatment of excessive muscle tension\, scar tissue\, fascia\, and c
onnective tissues. TrPs are hyperirritable spots within a taut band of con
tractured skeletal muscle fibres that produce local and/or referred pain w
hen stimulated.\n\nTrPs are divided into active and latent TrPs dependent
upon the degree of irritability. Active TrPs are spontaneously painful\, w
hile latent TrPs are only painful when stimulated. TrPs are physiological
contractures\, characterized by local ischemia and hypoxia\, local and ref
erred pain and altered muscle activation patterns. TrPs activate muscle no
ciceptors and are peripheral sources of persistent nociceptive input\, thu
s contributing to the development of peripheral and central sensitization.
\n\nDN can be divided into deep and superficial DN. Deep DN has been shown
to inactivate TrPs by eliciting local twitch responses (LTR) which are mo
dulated by the central nervous system. A LTR is a spinal cord reflex that
is characterized by an involuntary contraction of the contractured taut ba
nd\, which can be elicited by a snapping palpation or penetration with a n
eedle. The LTR has been shown to be associated with alleviation and mitiga
tion of spontaneous electrical activity or motor endplate noise\; a reduct
ion of the concentration of numerous nociceptive\, inflammatory\, and immu
ne system related chemicals and relaxation of the taut band.\n\nDeep DN of
TrPs is associated with reduced local and referred pain\, improved range
of motion and decreased TrP irritability both locally and more remotely. D
N normalizes the chemical milieu and pH of skeletal muscle and restores lo
cal circulation. Superficial DN is thought to activate mechanoreceptors co
upled to slow conducting unmyelinated C fibre afferents\, and indirectly\,
stimulate the anterior cingular cortex. Superficial DN may also be mediat
ed through stimulation of A delta fibres\, or via stretching of fibroblast
s in connective tissue. Superficial DN is associated with reduced local an
d referred pain and improved range of motion.\n\nDN may be incorporated in
to a treatment plan when myofascial TrPs are present\, which may lead to i
mpairments in posture\, pain and functional limitations. TrPs are sources
of persistent peripheral nociceptive input and their inactivation is consi
stent with current pain management insights DN also is indicated with rest
rictions in range of motion due to contractured muscle fibres or taut band
s\, or other soft tissue restrictions\, such as fascial adhesions or scar
tissue. TrPs have been identified in numerous diagnoses and can treat radi
culopathies\, joint dysfunction\, disk pathology\, tendinopathies\, cranio
-mandibular dysfunction\, headaches and migraines\, tension-type headaches
\, carpal tunnel syndrome\, computer-related or repetitive strain disorder
s\, whiplash associated injury\, spinal dysfunction\, pelvic pain\, post-h
erpetic neuralgia\, complex regional pain syndromes\, sports injuries\, no
cturnal cramps and other relatively uncommon disorders.\n\nIf you are a so
ft tissue therapist and DN is in your scope of practice\, then is it time
for you to learn this amazing new technique to help your patients and clie
nts overcome their pain and dysfunction.\n\nFor more information about Dry
Needling\, click here.\nA Club Physio Dry Needling Courses registration i
ncludes:\n• All supplies needed for the course as needles\, tissues\n•
Coloured and illustrated course manual\n• Tea\, Coffee and Lunch on eac
h day\n• Certificate of attendance in a digital form\n• One free premi
um listing of your practice on our website\nPlease note:\nDry Needling cou
rses are for healthcare therapists / professionals (clinical physiotherapi
sts (PT's)\, chiropractors (DC's)\, osteopaths (DO's)\, podiatrists\, soft
 tissue and manual therapists\, kinesiologists\, doctors\, nurses\, medica
l specialists and acupuncturists) for whom dry needling is within your sco
pe of practice and you are legally permitted to needle in your registered
country / state. No minimum dry needling or previous acupuncture experienc
e required but presumed anatomy\, advanced palpation skills and clinical e
xpertise is expected due to the advanced nature and in depth structure of
our DN courses. Professional indemnity insurance as per your professional
body is also a pre-requisite.\nSome sports / rehab / massage therapists ca
n apply subject to scope of practice with your professional organization\,
theoretical and practical experience and having professional indemnity in
surance.\nIf you are not sure whether DN falls within your scope of practi
ce\, ask your professional organization or you can email us here. \n[/spo
