T TOPICS' - THE LOWER LIMB SPORTS INJURIES E-CON FEB 2024 - via zoom meeti
 ng\; Live stream 25th February 2024.\n\nE-CONFERENCE SPEAKERS\n\n1. Glenn
Robbins (UK). ACL injury\; bringing elite level rehab to recreational athl
etes. - Taking an ACL client from the couch to the cage\, the ring\, the f
ield\, etc\, can be a challenging process. There are big discrepancies bet
ween return to sport success in elite sport versus recreational athletes.
How can we shorten this Gap?\n\n2. Arnold Vlok (South Africa). Patella ten
dinopathy: Secrets to put the spring back in your patients tendon. - Join
us as we unravel the complexities of patella tendinopathy\, exploring its
etiology\, manifestations and most importantly\, unveiling the specific st
rength and power training rehabilitation exercises that can breathe new li
fe into 'tired tendons'. This isn't just about healing\; it's about crafti
ng a rehabilitation regimen that enhances tensile stiffness and strength\,
propelling your clients toward optimal performance.\n\n3. Helene Simpson
(South Africa). All ankle sprains are the same\, right? And we rehab them
the same? Wrong! - If you think there is a single recipe for ankle sprain
management and rehabilitation...think again. The mechanism of injury is di
fferent\, meaning different structures (ligaments\, joints and tendons) ge
t injured. We will discuss the different mechanism and impact on structure
s and stability of the ankle. And most importantly\, how we modify the reh
abilitation in the early stages for good outcomes\, when to refer\, time l
ines in return to training\, sport and performance.\n\n4. Sam Nupen (South
Africa). Its never just a hamstring strain... - Hamstring strains are com
mon injuries in sports that require high speed sprinting and kicking accou
nting for 17% of all sports injuries. The recurrence rate is also very hig
 h. In this talk Sam will discuss contributing factors\, assessment and man
agement of hamstring strains necessary to return an athlete to sport and t
o avoid a recurrence.\n\n5. Paula Nutting (AUS). Addressing the myofascial
meridians accelerates lower limb injury healing. - Selecting the perfect
treatment requires knowing what muscles to target. Sourcing the myofascial
meridians that pass through the lower body can produce rapid outcomes and
improved performance for your athlete.\n\n6. Claire Minshull (UK). The cr
 oss-education effect on the lower limb &amp\; ACL. - The cross-education (
CE) phenomenon describes the strength gain in the opposite untrained limb
following unilateral contralateral resistance training. Performed correctl
y\, in healthy populations the CE effect can induce strength gains of up t
o 50% (in the untrained limb) relative to the improvements in the trained
limb. In clinical populations CE can attenuate declines in strength caused
by surgery\, and/or immobilisation compared to standard care. There are o
bvious advantages within MSK injured and load-compromised populations for
the use of CE to accelerate rehabilitation. Learn what CE is and important
ly how to effectively structure training interventions to enable its occur
rence. You will gain a clear understanding of what the cross-education is\
, a short &amp\; critical review of its evidence-base\, when it works\, an
 d when it doesn’t. Understand the critical factors determining CE &amp\;
the extent of effect and exploration of CE by muscle group\, limb\, domin
ance &amp\; contraction type. Strength gain &amp\; strength-sparing and ap
plying CE to clinical practice.\n\n7. Jo-Dee Pryce (South Africa)\; When c
alf pain is not a calf injury. - ‘Learn how to differentially diagnose w
hat’s going on and what to do about the origins of calf pain- a physioth
erapy perspective’.\n\n8. Benoy Mathew (UK). Current Updates in Achilles
tendinopathy in Runners. - Achilles tendon disorders are a common entity
in middle-aged active people. With increasing sports participation in the
general population\, the number of overuse injuries has increased. Tendon
disorders comprise 30 to 50% of all sports-related injuries and there is a
lifetime risk of 52% in elite long-distance runners of suffering from an
Achilles tendon injury. In this talk\, we will be covering the aetiology\,
risk factors\, differential diagnosis of Achilles tendinopathy in runners
.\n.\n9. Karine Bezuidenhout (South Africa). The role of the lymphatics in
lower limb sports injuries.- The lymphatic system is crucial in supportin
g the fascia and vascular system. By influencing the lymphatic system\, we
can also impact other regulatory systems within the body. This introducti
on explores how knowledge and skill can be utilized to manipulate the lymp
hatic system\, serving as an additional tool in our toolkit to support pat
ients. We aim to relieve chronic pain\, aid recovery and regeneration\, re
gulate internal pressure\, and assist in the healing of acute injuries.\n\
nJoin 9 eminent speakers and sports physio experts from across different s
porting codes and from around the globe for an awesome day of sports physi
 o and sports injuries presentations.\n[/spoiler]\n[spoiler title='How to b
