WORKSHOP OUTLINE

This 2-hour workshop will focus on the rehabilitation strategies for patients who have undergone ankle and foot surgery after trauma (fractures, tendon ruptures)
or elective surgery to repair a midfoot collapse, hallux valgus, dislocating Peroneii tendons other interesting conditions.

I will touch on wound care, shoe wear, compression garments, braces, knee scooters and other assistive devices and so forth. I will also discuss some of the practicalities of managing these patients for the long term. I will focus on how to retrain gait in the early days and how to progress to full weight bearing gait (weaning from AFO and crutches).

Most importantly, we will discuss early accelerated rehabilitation (what does it really mean?) and the benefits and potential problems with early rehabilitationm and will also touch on how to deal with chronic post -surgical pain and CRPS.
