‘HOT TOPICS’ – RE-TRAIN PAIN SPORTS INJURIES E-CON – via zoom meeting; Live stream 9th March 2025.
E-CONFERENCE SPEAKERS
1. Paula Nutting; (Aussie) – Myofascial pain syndromes. Let’s dive back in time to Janet Travell’s assessments of posture and anomalies and tweak it to the 2020’s. The treatment back then was life changing for many, but we can revise how we treat myofascial pain for more long lasting effects by understanding the impact of our myofascial meridians.
2. Ruqaia Malash; (Palestine) – Not all referred pain is referred pain. Referred pain is a complex phenomenon where pain is perceived at a location distant from its actual source. Recent advancements in neuroimaging have revealed altered cortical and subcortical activity during referred pain episodes refining diagnostic techniques, such as dynamic pain mapping and biomarker identification.
3. Megyn Robertson; (South Africa) – Concussion and pain. The role of neuro inflammation and anxiety in persistent concussion symptoms… a real pain in the brain!
4. Sam Nupen; (South Africa) – Acute Injury – What a Pain! I will cover the phases of healing and the clinically relevant healing topics.
5. Stian Le Roux; (South Africa) – Implementing pain science in the real world. Putting a pain paradigm shift into practice is a long and difficult process. Stian will give you insight into how pain science has transformed his clinical reasoning and enhanced his clinical outcomes.
6. Corlia Brandt; (South Africa) – Tackling pelvic pain issues – Delving into the management of neural, muscular, anatomical and trauma related components within a interprofessional approach.
7. Hemali Mehta; (India) – Advances in the Neurophysiology of Dry Needling: Bridging Science and Practice. Dry needling can influence pain modulation, neuromuscular function, and tissue recovery. We will explore the latest advancements, clinical implications and evidence-based strategies to enhance patient outcomes, merging science with practical application
8. Jacqui Koep; (South Africa) – Pain, the brain and neuroplasticity’. Pain is a behavioural response to perceived danger. The brain can be reprogrammed and so can pain.
