E-CONFERENCE SPEAKERS

1. Mark Arnall (UK) – Managing the Formula 1 driver. With a 29 year career in F1 as a physio and performance coach for 3 F1 World Champions, Mark is perfectly positioned to give you the relevant insight into how F1 drivers are managed during a long an arduous season involving 220+ days of testing, racing and traveling and how the performance coach’s roll is to prevent and manage injuries by looking at driver set up, pre-season training, in-season maintenance & recovery strategies and off season work loads.

2. Paddy Farhart (Australia) – A deep dive into Lumbar bone stress injuries in fast bowlers. Low back pain and more commonly lumbar bone stress injuries are the fast bowlers nightmare and possibly career threatening too. Paddy will delve into the causes, diagnostics and up-to-date management for bone stress injury in fast bowlers.

3. Hugh Everson (Hong Kong & SA) – Critical Life or Limb Threatening Injuries in Sport – A Rugby Model. Rugby is a full-contact sport with high physical demands involving rapid accelerations and decelerations and high threshold collisions. Most match injuries occur during the contact phases of the game with the tackle situation resulting in the highest injury incidence.

4. Jacqui Koep (South Africa) – Why do athletes exercise through pain? This talk will explore what makes athletes able to tolerate pain and when that becomes a problem. Teaching athletes how to distinguish between productive discomfort that serves training goals versus when it signals potential harm is key to long term health.

5. Jonathan Joshua – Novel concepts for rehab strategies of chronic low back pain in athletes. Jonathan will share practical, in-session exercise and management strategies drawn directly from his clinical practice where attendees will learn actionable skills to navigate chronic pain in real time, including how to – Discern “learning” vs. loading; build local capacity / train global function; leverage movement novelty; apply CNS down-regulation; integrate targeted PNE and embrace person-centered coaching.

6. Gracie Hughes (South Africa) – The para athlete; how we adapt clinical reasoning and management. Para athletes  are unique in their presentation and thereby also their injuries. For successful outcomes, assessment, treatment and rehab require insight, strong clinical reasoning and adaptability.

7. Jack Hickey (Ireland) – Pain and exercise progression during hamstring injury rehabilitation. Jack’s PhD research focussed on critically evaluating criteria used to guide exercise progression during hamstring injury rehabilitation, which has conventionally used a completely pan-free approach. In this presentation, Jack will discuss how his PhD research challenged this conventional practice and provide practical insights to guide accelerated exercise progression during hamstring injury rehabilitation.

8. Lindsay Harris (South Africa) – Optimal foot function is crucial for an optimal long jump. This presentation dives into the critical role of foot biomechanics in achieving an optimal long jump, focusing on how proper alignment, force distribution, and propulsion mechanics enhance performance. Understanding these principles is essential for sports physiotherapists, as it aids in injury prevention, rehabilitation strategies, and performance optimization for athletes.

Join 8 eminent speakers and physio experts for an awesome day of pain and injury presentations.
