This sports Injuries Course will consist of 8 Modules taught over 4 sessions of 3hrs each – with the aim of giving you the confidence and knowledge in handling any sports injury whether it’s for a professional athlete or an amateur sportsman. I hope to equip you with enough tools for you to give your sportsman the best advice and treatment possible. This course will also stimulate you in doing further research since there is so much in this field that can be improved and discovered.
Jacqui McCord-Uys is sport physio with a special interest in the management of sports injuries, having worked at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, Junior Commonwealth Games, The All Africa Games (1989 & 2003), Senior Commonwealth Games (Manchester July 2002), South African Women’s Rugby, SA Sevens Rugby (2003) and with SuperSport United Professional Football team for 22yrs.

First Session – Friday 17th April; 4pm – 7pm South African time
Module 1: How to approach a Sports Injury
Diagnosis is the most important part. We take an in-depth look at all the factors that can influence and contribute to an accurate diagnosis.
Second Session – Tuesday 21st April; 4pm – 7pm South African time
Module 2: Treatment of Sports injuries
We discuss the wide variety of treatment options available to us in treatment of the sportsman.
Module 3: Rehabilitation of sports injuries
This is an important aspect of injury recovery, but we will look at this in general at first and learn how to think ‘out the box’.
Module 4: Field side management for the Therapist or Doctor
We look at how to approach injuries while on duty next to a sports field, what to pack in your bags and the difficult return to play decisions.
Module 5: Know your sport
Here we look at different sports and rules regarding field side service to the athletes
Third Session – Thursday 23rd April; 4pm – 7pm South African time
Module 6: Sports Injuries in detail
Every aspect of a wide selection of injuries is discussed from a diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation approach. We start at the foot ankle complex and finish with Hand injuries.
Fourth Session – Wednesday 29th April; 4pm – 7pm South African time
Module 7: The athlete’s recovery
We look at methods that can enhance the athlete’s recovery from injury and during heavy training seasons.
Module 8: Practical video sessions
All the videos are for the practical sessions in the previous modules.
