A BIOMECHANICAL APPROACH FOR THE ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT OF THE LUMBAR SPINE, PELVIS AND SACROILIAC JOINT
Presented by: Shari Rosenberg

………………………………………………………………………………..

The Biomechanical Approach to the Assessment and Treatment of the Lumbar Spine and Pelvis course is a theoretical and practical course based on extensive clinical experience in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of lumbo-pelvic and SI joint dysfunction.

Sacroiliac dysfunction can result in a host of conditions; i.e: low back pain, hip bursitis, groin strains, hamstring strains, iliotibial band syndrome, anterior knee pain, shinsplints, achilles tendonitis etc.

This dynamic and exciting course consolidates traditional models of lumbo-pelvic girdle assessment and treatment with current research and philosophies of management together with looking at the anatomy and biomechanics of the SI joint and the role it plays in all of these conditions. “The Biomechanical Model” will be used to assess dysfunction of this important joint.

An introduction to Osteopathic principles will provide participants with a straightforward yet comprehensive knowledge of muscle energy techniques and exercise prescription for a wide variety of lumbo-pelvic disorders that present to manual therapists.

The importance of the ‘sling muscle systems’ for force closure of the pelvis will also be introduced and rehabilitation techniques utilising the Pilates and Gyrotonic® principles will be incorporated.

A patient with these conditions will be presented and treatment progressed over the two day course

This course will cover:

* Biomechanical assessment of the lumbar spine and pelvis including the SI joint;
* Assessment of functional movement patterns;
* Assessment of the muscle slings, which provide stability to this region;
* Treatment with muscle energy techniques;
* The integration of exercise principles to address specific dysfunctions and muscle imbalances that are common in this area.

Course duration: 2 days
