Rehabilitation of AMIS Total Hip Arthroplasty and Hip Arthroscopy – Establishing quantifiable guidelines

Barry Getz is a qualified physiotherapist who graduated from the University of Pretoria. He has been practicing at The Centre for Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics in Rosebank, Jo’burg for the past 10 years. During this time Barry has been affliiated with the treatment and rehabilitation of numerous sporting teams and individuals, namely: International rugby teams – Local rugby teams – International Soccer – Local soccer teams – Various international Indian Cricket Players and local provincial cricket players having been involved extensively in post-‐surgical rehabilitation. Barry has now shifted his focus to the treatment and rehabilitation of injuries to the lower limb and spine, with specific emphasis on Achilles tendon repairs, hip and groin rehabilitation. During the past five years he has established an accelerated achilles tendon repair protocol which has been applied to numerous local and international athletes and established principles for hip and groin rehabilitation. He has published internationally and locally, presented various CPD talks and been involved in an international study on Effectiveness and Saftey on Achilles tendons. Barry enjoys the post-‐surgical treatment of hip and knee arthroscopy and arthroplasty, the sportsmans hernia and achilles tendon repairs. He has recently attended the 8th biennial ISAKOS 2011 congress in Rio De Janerio, Brazil. Through this attendance he was able to aquire a global perspective on sports rehabilitation. |
